Thus, all cast members need to be available for all rehearsal days/times for the entire rehearsal period – i.e all Monday and Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons, until advised they are not needed (usually a week or two in advance).

All cast members are expected to attend all rehearsals as required. Please note on your audition form any dates that you are not available and discuss this with the Production Team. With advance notice, some absences may be managed; however unexpected absences from rehearsals cause considerable delay and inconvenience, and accordingly the Production Team reserves the right to ask any cast member absent from rehearsals to leave the production. We gently note that family birthdays, school commitments etc should already be known at the time of auditions, and should be taken into account when considering your availability for the show.

Information for lead role and senior ensemble auditionees (adults and 15 +)

Acting and singing auditions for lead roles will be conducted in groups up to 6 people. Allow up to an hour for your audition.
Dancing auditions will be conducted in a separate session, in larger groups. Allow up to an hour for the Dance audition.

You will sing a song of your choosing. Please learn a song that shows your range, ability, and shows characterisation. We strongly suggest you practice your song thoroughly before your audition. Please bring a backing track on CD, iPod, phone, etc. A range of equipment for playing your backing track will be available. Sheet music is not recommended, as the MD needs to concentrate on your singing, not on sight-reading music. There are many karaoke backing tracks available through iTunes and on YouTube. For time reasons, you may not be required to sing the whole song.
Please note we will be using a backing track CD (supplied by Disney) for rehearsals and performances, so check the vocal ranges listed with the Roles below.

The Choreographer will teach auditionees a short routine. Please wear clothes that you feel comfortable dancing in.
Note: we are seeking a strong dance ensemble. If you are a trained dancer and would prefer to be assessed purely for your dance skills rather than singing etc then please indicate this when booking an audition, and we will book you into the Dance audition only.

If you would like to be considered for a lead role please indicate this when requesting an audition. We will send you four monologues. Please learn one of these for your audition. Alternatively, you are welcome to do a short monologue of your choosing.

Information for Junior Ensemble roles auditionees (experienced performers aged 10 - 15)

Auditions for ensemble roles will be conducted in groups of around 15 people. Allow an hour for your audition.

The Choreographer will teach a short dance routine, and the Musical Director will teach a short song, both of which will be done as a group.
If you would like to be considered for a speaking role, please mention this when booking a Junior Ensemble audition and we will send you four monologues to choose from.

Please wear clothes that you feel comfortable dancing and moving in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who will be on the audition panel?

The Director, Musical Director, Choreographer and Producer.

When will callbacks be held?

Monday 26th August and/or Tuesday 27th August at Belconnen Community Centre (if required).

When will I find out if I am successful?

We will email all auditionees, whether you are successful or not, by Thursday 29th August.

Can my parents/sibling/best friend watch me audition?

No, however parents/guardians will be able to ask questions of the production team at the auditions.

Are there charges/costs associated with being in the production?

Ickle Pickle does not charge for participation in our shows. Cast may however be expected to provide parts of their costume i.e shoes, basic leggings etc, as well as personal make-up.

Why are the audition panel writing during my audition?

The audition panel will be seeing many people during the audition period. They are making notes about your potential, performance, ability, suitability, etc. to remind them when it comes to casting. These notes are confidential.

What should I wear/bring to the audition?

·         Loose, comfortable and appropriate clothing that you can move in (not jeans).
Layers are useful!

·         Shoes that are suitable for dancing (not sneakers or thongs). Socks or bare feet are fine.

·         Your completed audition form.

·         Any accompaniment that you require for singing.

·         A filled water bottle.

I’m not available on the audition weekend. Is there another time I can audition?

Unfortunately, not.

I’m an adult with some stage experience. Can I audition for an ensemble role?

Yes, we are looking for experienced performers for ensemble roles aged 15 and up, including adults, for Senior Ensemble roles.

My child hasn’t done any performing before, but I would like them to try out, even if only for the experience of auditioning. Is this okay?

Unfortunately, we have very limited time for auditions, and so we ask that only those with recent stage performance experience audition for this production.

I will be away for part of rehearsals. Is this okay?
With advance notice we may be able to accommodate cast missing one or two rehearsals, however longer absences impact on our progress through rehearsals, so cast are expected to be available for all rehearsals. This especially applies to Production Week in January.

My parent/sibling/family friend is interested in helping with the production. How could they assist?

Fantastic! Please mention it at the time of booking an audition or at any point during the rehearsal period. There are many non-performance ways of being involved in a show, working under our experienced Production Team leaders. e.g. crew, costumes, sourcing props, front of house, set construction, lighting, sound, painting, etc.

How do I book an audition?

Email your name, age and whether you’re auditioning for a lead or ensemble role to This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it with your preferred audition day. We will advise you your audition time and will send you the audition form and other relevant information.
